CATHERINE PARR (1513-1548) reine d’Angleterre

Sixième femme de Henri VIII d’Angleterre, qu’elle épouse en juillet 1543, après avoir elle-même connu deux veuvages successifs. Apparentée à de puissantes familles aristocratiques, elle semble avoir tenu son rôle avec prudence et habileté, non sans encourir le soupçon justifié de sympathiser avec une réforme plus protestante. Ayant réussi à échapper à des poursuites judiciaires ordonnées par Henri VIII, elle n’est sauvée, en 1547, que par la mort de ce dernier. Un quatrième mariage avec sir Thomas Seymour, lord grand amiral, suivra de près ce veuvage.
